Apart from the candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council in
2026, Montenegro submitted a request for candidacy in another three
important bodies of the UN – the UN Human Rights Council, UN Commission
on Sustainable Development and UNDP Executive Board. Gathering the
support of all UN member countries for the candidacy is in progress.
Montenegro is competing for membership in the UN Human Right Council
for the period from 2012 to 2015. As one of the most important bodies
of the UN, the Council has 47 members, and member countries are elected
for a period of 3 years. New members are mostly chosen with a majority
